Northside, Cincinnati

Do I need any experience to join?

Not at all. We welcome complete beginners. Instructors will put you in the right room and walk you through the basics.

What gear do I need?

For all classes we recommend a mouth guard and workout attire. Gi jiu-jitsu classes require a gi — any color or brand is suitable. Muay Thai classes require 16 oz boxing gloves, shin guards, and a jump rope. If you need help with brands, styles, or budget, write us or see the recommended list below.

What gear do you recommend?

For quality and longevity we recommend Hyperfly, Tatami, Elite, Sanabul, or Fuji gis; CombatCrnr or Fairtex shins and gloves; Scramble, Hyperfly, Level Black, or VHTS rash guards; and Damage Control or Impact mouthguards. Armbar Soap is sold at the academy for healthy skin on and off the mat.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. You are welcome to try 2–3 classes before you sign up for a membership. Sign the waiver of liability before you step on the mats.

How often should I train?

Start with 2–3 classes per week and add more as your body adapts. Consistency matters more than intensity when you are new.

Are there kids classes?

Yes. We have Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gi and No-Gi classes for kids 6–13 — Gi on Monday and Wednesday, No-Gi on Thursday and Friday. The room is size-matched and built around confidence, coordination, and focus.

Do you offer women-only classes?

Yes. Women's-only BJJ No-Gi is Tuesday from 5pm to 6pm.

Can I cancel my membership?

Adult (14+) and child (6–13) memberships are billed monthly and can be cancelled anytime. There are no 6-month or annual commitment plans.

Do you offer discounts for veterans, law enforcement, and firefighters?

Yes. With proper documentation there is a 10% discount.

How much are private lessons?

Private-lesson pricing is a negotiation between you and the instructor. Factors include the instructor's experience, whether the private sits next to a scheduled class (to cut travel time), and whether you buy a bundle. Most privates fall in the $40–$60/hour range.

Where do I park?

There is ample parking at the academy. If the lot fills, there is street parking on Hamilton Ave.

How often are the mats cleaned?

We take hygiene seriously. Mats are cleaned after every practice with a virucide / bacteriocide / fungicide, so they are cleaned at least three times a day.

Do I have to compete?

You may compete as much or as little as you like. You will likely be encouraged to compete for growth, but you are not obligated. We have experienced people here to help you train, find opportunities, and develop your game.
